Wiki key examples
One identification method offered by Key to Nature are the Wiki keys. These can be developed directly on a wiki page and provide open-source content that can be easily copied on to another page to be legally modified or translated.
Wiki keys are in general very suitable for smaller keys of about 2 to 200 species. They can be used occasionally for larger keys, but, being document-based, loading times can become a problem.
Important features are the ability to hide/display part of the information (see "more..." links) and the ability to turn a printable document into an interactive player that provides a history or the decisions leading to a result (using our jKey Player software, click on the "play" button in the upper right corner of each key).
The following English keys are available to demonstrate the potential of these keys:
- Standard row-based linked key: Key to common UK street trees
- Simplified layout for younger children: Key to common UK street trees (simplified version)
- Key including sound: Key to Garden and Village Birds
- Key with leads within each decision arranged side-by-side: Key to Bumblebees (2 keys: 1st with only 1 decision, 2nd with many)
