WP6: e-learning platforms benchmarking
A possible approach for WP6 could be to decide not to develop any e-learning platform from scratch (which is econtentplus programme compliant) and instead decide to use a consolidated e-learning platform, (C)LMS (such as moodle, drupal,…). See the effects on the possible business model
In this way WP6 would:
- 1. review the (C)LMSs and choose the most suitable for our learning/teaching purposes
- 2. select the most suitable modules of such platform for learning biodiversity purposes
- 3. design the conceptual model for the integration of a “K2N module” (embed identification keys?...). 2 steps of integration can be adopted:
- low (initial, simply embed links to the Identification keys; add tutorial; propose a set of suitable educational activities for teaching and learning biodiversity (see also WP7); provide a selected toolbox for educational activities related to the pedagogical objectives of the project)
- develop a specific module for identification activities compliant with the C-LMS chosen
- 4. start develop the prototype of the K2N personalised platform
- 5. work (develop) on the module for integration (3- second step)
To feed this proposal, you can find below a deliverable of a project I was involved few years ago: it presents “A review of different typologies of learning managing systems has been carried out in order to consider the impact of such technologies upon the educational activities. In The Commonwealth of Learning (2003), 35 Open Source Learning Management System have been analysed: the first 3 classified were Moodle, ATutor and Ilias. In this document it is provided an overview of the general characteristics of the three LMS; a technical comparison (technical specification 1/2) and a more detailed transversal comparison about management aspects from the administrator and the user points of view.” see [1] This analysis could be personalised choosing also some pedagogical criteria, coming from WP2 focus groups and WP7 work.
