Origin: S. Europe

Description: Spreading tree up to 35m. Leaves alternate, 5-10cm long, oblong in outline, pinnately lobed with 4-7 pairs of narrow lobes, dull green and rough above, woolly beneath. Acorns in clusters of 1-5, half to two-thirds enclosed in a cup 15-22mm diameter and covered with outward-curving scales.

Comments: The acorns of this species ripen in the second year.
