The submission process to make Submission v0.9 a TDWG standard has begun.

Summary: The MRTG v 0.9 submission is a proposed metadata standard for the description of the content and access mechanisms of biodiversity multimedia objects, whether digitized or not. Its normative form is independent of any representation, but a representation in XML-Schema and in RDF are also proposed. Important design criteria of the proposed standard are:

  • Re-use of definitions and URIs of other standards where deemed appropriate. In particular, a substantial number of terms are adopted from the Darwin Core.
  • A small number of terms are mandatory in a conforming document.
  • It should be possible to provide metadata that helps humans and software to assess fitness-for-use without acquiring the media.
  • There should be support for media that document taxon occurrences, but also for documenting taxon information, e.g. characters and states and other descriptive data, identification tools, illustration of ecosystems and species interaction and other biological aspects of organisms, taxa, and biological systems.

There are two ways to comment of the metadata vocabulary proposal:

1. Register for the wiki at Special:UserLogin and comment at Discussable v0.9, editing the wiki page.

2. Send email to tdwg-img@lists.tdwg.org. The Task Group will incorporate your email in the Comments mentioned above..

We urge you to read the brief report mentioned at MRTG_Non_normative_document before commenting.
