Origin: Scandinavia and the Baltic

Description: Tree up to 15m with a dense, conical to rounded crown. Leaves alternate, ovate and lobed about one quarter of the way to the midrib, margins toothed, glossy green above, grey to white wooly beneath. Flowers numerous, in branched clusters, stalks woolly, each flower 1.5-2cm across, white. Fruit woolly at first, ripening hairless, 15mm long, ovoid, scarlet.

Comments: A species tolerant of air pollution and often used as a street tree.
