SISTEMA AMBIENTE 2010

An event dedicated to present the Italian Network for Biodiversity.

On 31 March 2010 from 10.30am will be held in Rome at the National Research Council in Piazzale Moro, Marconi Room, a meeting to ensure the widest possible dissemination of activities of the project Sistema Ambiente 2010. The project started with the goal of building the National Biodiversity Network (NNB) in Italy, an innovative way to gather and share information on biodiversity fully supported by Italian Branch of KeyToNature (UNITS - Dryades).

With this tool the authorities responsible for environmental policies may have a useful support for informed decisions that ensure the sustainable use of natural resources of our country, preserving them for future generations.

Furthermore, aggregation of the current state of knowledge on biodiversity in Italy will help to improve information on biodiversity, making it useful for fundamental research, applied for that and for training activities designed to promote inter-operability, developing common standards and protocols are open for easy access to scientific databases.

The project Sistema Ambiente 2010 uses innovative communication technologies that enrich and deliver efficient and comprehensive information on biodiversity. It will help stimulate more intense and efficient cooperation between research centers and within the Italian and European "Biodiversity virtual research communities."

IPT Informatica srl for the territory, Igeam Srl, Vitrociset Spa, the Department of Biology, University of Rome "Tor Vergata" and the Department of Plant Biology, University of Rome "La Sapienza", with the help of the University of Trieste , the CNR of Bari, University of Salento, the European Fauna of Italy, the Museo Civico di Storia Naturale del Comune di Verona, the Natural History Museum of the City of Florence, University of Molise, University of Palermo and a group of ecologists relating to the SITE (Italian Society of Ecology), have laid the foundations of the project.

The meeting of 31 March 2010, is organized in cooperation with the Ministry for the Environment, Land and Sea, that wants to spread the work and involve all stakeholders in defining the network and the Italian Clearing-House Mechanism from its very early stage.
