Origin: Garden hybrid

Description: Columnar evergreen tree up to 35m high with generally upswept branches hiding much of the trunk. Foliage forms flattened sprays in some forms, but not in others; the leading shoot at the tip of the tree leans but does not droop. Leaves scale-like, 0.5-2mm, in alternating pairs pressed against the shoot, those on the lower side of the shoot paler than leaves on the upper side. Mature cones 20-30mm, globular, the scales meeting edge to edge, each with a central spine.

Comments: One of the most commonly planted trees. It is reknowned for its rapid growth.
