Chamaecyparis lawsoniana

Cypress family Cupressaceae

Origin: North America

Description: Evergreen tree up to 45m high with a conical or columnar shape. Dense foliage forms flattened sprays; the leading shoot at tip of tree droops conspicuously. Leaves scale-like, c. 2mm long, in alternating pairs pressed against the twig, those on the lower side of the shoot with white markings. Mature cones 8mm, globular, composed of 8 scales meeting edge to edge; each scale has a central ridge.

Comments: There are many cultivars varying in the shape of the crown and colour of the foliage. This can range from yellow or yellowish green to dark green, grey or blue but always smells of parsley when crushed.
