Origin: C. & S. Europe

Description: Tree up to 40m with a narrowly domed crown of upwardly arching branches. Leaves alternate, generally heart-shaped, sharply toothed, hairy on both surfaces but more so beneath. Flowers 2 to 6 in pendulous clusters attached to an oblong and whitish, wing-like bract, 5-petalled, yellowish and sweet-scented. Fruit 8-12mm long, globose, hairy, with 3 to 5 longitudinal ridges.

Comments: The earliest of the UK limes to flower.
