6 TRAVEL - HOW TO REACH TARTU

Members of the K2N Consortium are generally expected to arrive on Monday, 28 September, and leave during Saturday, 3 October or Sunday, 4 October 2009.

(a) Travel is suggested through Tallinn International Airport (TLL), homepage: http://www.tallinn-airport.ee/eng/

From Tallinn Airport you should go to the Tallinn Bus terminal (ca 5 min by taxi, city bus 2 also possible) and travel to Tartu by an intercity bus. Buses leave from Tallinn Bus terminal to Tartu at least at each full hour, and the travel lasts ca 2,5 hours. Time-table of the buses and web tickets available at: http://www.bussireisid.ee/index.html?MENU=&KEEL=en

(b) There is also an airport in Tartu (TAY) which will (hopefully!) start regular international flights to Stockholm and to Riga this summer. You can book a ticket directly to Tartu using the homepage of Estonian Air: http://www.estonian-air.ee/index.php?lang=ENG For example, the flight from Stockholm to Tartu will leave on Monday, 28 September from Arlanda at 17.10 and will arrive in Tartu at 19. 40 (flight time 1.30).

Travelling via Riga can be booked through the homepage of Baltic Air http://www.airbaltic.com/public/index.html

7 MONEY

National currency is Estonian Kroon (EEK). Fixed exchange rate is: 1 EUR = 15.65 EEK (service charge added when you exchange). All hotels, stores and restaurants accept Visa, MasterCard and Eurocard. However, in bus stations and taxi you can pay only in cash. There are plenty of ATMs in Tallinn and Tartu. All banks offer currency exchange services, exchange offices can also be found in the airport.
