Equipment to identify trees
From KeyToNature
No special equipment is required to identify trees but a few items will come in handy.
- A hand lens or magnifying glass (up to x10) is the most useful item. It can be used to check for hairs and other tiny features which are difficult to see with the naked eye.
- A notebook to record size and colour or to sketch shapes. Leaves shrivel and flowers can fade very quickly so note details while the material is fresh.
- A camera is useful for recording the shape of the tree and making a permanent record. Remember that most cameras will not take images that show features such as hairs clearly so they are not a complete substitute for looking at the real thing.
