Description: Tree up to 10m with a spreading crown. Purplish twigs with sharp thorns 7-10cm long. Leaves alternate, 5-8cm, widest above the middle, toothed, hairless on both surfaces. Flowers 15mm diameter, 5-petalled, white, on hairless stalks in loose clusters. Styles 2. Fruits fleshy, 10-12mm long, globular or slightly pear-shape, bright red; seeds 2.

Comments: Ripe fruits remain on the twigs throughout winter.
