Ash (Fraxinus excelsior)

Origin: Europe
Description: Tall tree up to 40m, with a domed crown. Bark smooth or slightly furrowed. Twigs clearly flattened at the nodes. Winter buds black. Leaves opposite, up to 35cm long, pinnately divided into 7 to13 leaflets each 5-12cm long, oval, pointed, toothed, with white hairs on the midrid beneath. Flowers purple, without sepals or petals, males and females in small clusters on different twigs and appearing before the leaves. Fruit 2.5-5cm long, extended above the seed into a narrow wing and hanging in dense clusters.
